My short film opens in a job interview waiting room, where the main character enters and sits on one of the chairs. Overwhelmed by a combination of her nerves and the cacophony of sound in the busy office space, the character closes her eyes to transport herself to the world of memories in her head. She travels not into a strange world, but rather, delves into the familiar visuals and sounds that she has already seen and heard. Throughout the film, the narration is a monologue from this character’s inner voice. This monologue isn’t about her; but addresses all those watching the film. This short film explores the importance of staying present even in pressure packed situations.
The way in which I incorporated the 2024 signature “spark” was through the use of narration in the film. It is first used, when the character mentions how she felt an instant “spark” from the idea that we have metaphorical cameras in our minds which record everything. “Spark” is also mentioned again at the very end of the film, when the narrator asks the audience “What will you record next to reflect your inner spark?”. This line is particularly important, as it inspires audiences to relate back to their own lives and ponder how their inner spark can ignite their lives moving forward.
